SRINAGAR SEPTEMBER 12:-Senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mohammad Farooq Inqlabi has strongly condemned the issuance of a show cause notice to MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Para, calling it a clear manifestation of political vendetta and authoritarian governance by the NC-led administration in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The notice, served by the Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, reportedly pertains to Para’s social media posts expressing concern over the detention of MLA Mehraj Malik from Doda under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
In a statement issued today, Inqlabi said, “This act of targeting Waheed Para — a young, dynamic and democratically elected representative — is not just undemocratic, it is dangerous. It reflects a deeper malaise within the system where dissent is criminalized, and constitutional voices are suppressed through bureaucratic tools.” He questioned the timing and intent of the action, stating that such measures are clearly designed to intimidate opposition voices and undermine democratic freedoms. He added that the PDP will stand firmly behind Waheed Para, who has consistently advocated for peace, dialogue, and youth empowerment in the region.
“This is not governance; this is governance through fear. When an elected representative cannot even raise his voice against the unlawful detention of a fellow legislator, it shows how far we have drifted from democratic norms. The administration must immediately withdraw the notice and cease this policy of harassment,” Inqlabi demanded. He further appealed to the civil society, media, and democratic institutions of the country to take serious note of the shrinking political space in Jammu & Kashmir and to stand against these repressive tactics aimed at silencing elected voices.
