SRINAGAR DECEM, 04:-The Shah-re-Khass Traders and Chambers on Thursday issued a detailed statement following an important meeting with the Chamber of Commerce, calling for coordinated efforts to address pressing issues impacting Srinagar’s historic downtown.
The meeting, held at the Chamber Office and chaired by Mr. Javid Ahmad Tenga, President of the Chamber of Commerce, brought together representatives from several valley-based trade associations. During the deliberations, the Shah-re-Khass delegation placed strong emphasis on three key priorities requiring immediate attention from authorities and stakeholders.
Foremost among these was the preservation of Srinagar’s distinctive architectural and cultural heritage. The traders stressed the need for proactive steps to protect centuries-old structures and safeguard the historic character of the old city, which they noted forms the cultural backbone of Srinagar.
Another major concern raised was the acute shortage of organized parking facilities in the downtown business zone. The delegation underscored that inadequate parking continues to disrupt commercial activity and cause significant inconvenience to residents. They urged the government to formulate and implement sustainable parking solutions to ease chronic congestion in the area.
The meeting also discussed the operational challenges and infrastructure needs of the Sunday Market at Iddgah, with traders seeking improved arrangements to ensure its smooth functioning for vendors as well as shoppers.
The Shah-re-Khass business community was represented in the meeting by Mr. Bashir Ahmad Kanu (Chairman), Mr. Abid Ahmad Mir (Advisor to Chairman / Social Media Incharge), and Mr. Irfan Bashir (Organiser).
Reaffirming their commitment, the Shah-re-Khass Traders and Chambers said they will continue to collaborate closely with the Chamber of Commerce and government authorities to secure meaningful progress on these long-standing issues and work toward the overall prosperity and preservation of Srinagar’s historic core.
