Top District Officials Laud the Initiative for Promoting Peace and Communal Harmony

RAJOURI APRIL 06:-In a unique and solemn observance, members of Sangarsh Movement and Rotary Club Grand Rajouri undertook a one-day ‘Self-Purification Fast’ at Shaheedi Chowk (Gujjar Mandi) near ALG Rajouri, as part of the ongoing week-long Rajouri Day celebrations. The initiative was aimed at paying tribute to the martyrs of the 1947–48 Pakistani Kabaili attack and spreading the message of peace, tolerance, and communal harmony.

The fasting members described the act as a spiritual homage to the brave soldiers and civilians who laid down their lives defending the sovereignty and integrity of the Peer Panchal region, ultimately ensuring its inclusion in the Indian Union.

Speaking on the occasion, participants highlighted the cultural and religious significance of fasting across faiths such as Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, and Jainism. They emphasized that while traditionally seen as a path to inner cleansing, the day’s fast was dedicated to societal healing and unity.

Earlier in the day, floral tributes were paid at the Shaheedi Stambh, where speakers recalled the brutalities inflicted by Pakistan-sponsored tribal invaders during the 1947-48 aggression. They also reflected on the spirit of communal solidarity that prevailed during that time, underscoring how people from diverse backgrounds rose together in resistance.

Later in the evening, the fast was ceremonially broken with juice offered by DIG Rajouri Tejinder Singh, District Development Commissioner Abhishek Sharma (IAS), and SSP Rajouri Gaurav Sikarwar (IPS). The dignitaries commended the organizing groups for their meaningful and peaceful initiative to honor the legacy of sacrifice and resilience.

Among those who addressed the gathering were Vikrant Sharma, Dr. Sachin Vaid, Kanav Badyal, Rakesh Gupta, Advocate Ashan Mirza, Muneer Mirza, and Lokesh Bakshi.

Prominent participants in the fast included Dr. Gopal Sharma, Vishal Sharma, Rajesh Mehta, Rahul Chandan, Ashish Bhasin, Nishant Vasudev, Waseem Anjum, Aaman Zari, Rajinder Sharma, Mushtaq Lone, Shiv Dutta, Rohit Gupta, Tilak Sudan, Varunesh Kumar, Zabar Ahmed, Sharukh Khan, Vikrant Verma, Ankur Gupta, Nameet Bhari, Sudhir Sharma, and many others.

The event served as a solemn reminder of the region’s historic struggle and the enduring need for peace and unity in today’s times.
