SRINAGAR NOV 24:-Prominent political and social leader Syed Saleem Gilani has strongly criticized the objections raised—first by an individual, then by a group, and now by the Leader of the Opposition in Jammu—over the admission of Muslim students to the Katra Vaishno Devi Medical College. Calling the controversy “a sad incident,” Gilani said that making religion the basis for medical admissions is against rational principles and unacceptable in a civilized society.
He asserted that whether it is a medical college or any other professional institution—Hindu Waqf–run or Muslim Waqf–run—all admissions are governed strictly by the national system.
“The system cannot be broken for the personal benefit of any group or party,” he said, adding that disrupting the country’s health education framework by using the religious card is neither justified nor in the national interest.
