SRINAGAR SEPT 23:-Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Leader & Chairperson Central observation Group Trust Ruheena Shahzad on Tuesday raised serious concerns over the massive losses faced by Kashmir’s fruit industry, estimating damages worth hundreds of crores of rupees, affecting thousands of farmers.
Ruheena said she was “deeply pained to see the plight of farmers in the valley” who are struggling due to devastating losses this season.
“The horticulture sector is the lifeline of Kashmir’s economy, yet our farmers are left helpless while their produce rots. Such inaction by the administration is unacceptable. The central government must immediately announce compensation and protective measures to secure the future of our fruit growers,” Ruheena Shahzad said in a statement issued here.
She urged the Union government to roll out a special relief package, ensure market support for unsold produce, and strengthen infrastructure, including cold storage, transport, and crop insurance. She warned that failure to act swiftly could push thousands of families into financial distress.
“The farmers of Kashmir have given their sweat and toil to the land; it is the duty of the government to protect them. Immediate and decisive action is the need of the hour,” she added.
Ruheena Shahzad reaffirmed her commitment to take up the matter at the highest forums and hold the concerned authorities accountable, ensuring that the grievances of the horticultural community are addressed without delay.
