JAMMU JUNE 28:-Senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mohammad Farooq Inqlabi lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he termed as the “unconstitutional and undemocratic suppression” of the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to media persons, Inqlabi said the abrogation of Article 370 and the continued denial of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is “no less than an undeclared Emergency” imposed on the region.
“It is ironic that the BJP observes June 25 as a ‘Black Day’ to remember the Emergency of 1975, while itself having stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its constitutional status, democratic rights, and dignity,” he said.
Inqlabi stressed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been living under an imposed silence since 2019, with no elected government, curtailed civil liberties, and the complete absence of democratic representation. “The continued denial of statehood is a deliberate attempt to weaken democratic institutions and silence the voice of the people,” he added.
He called on the central government to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without delay and to initiate meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders to restore constitutional and democratic guarantees.
“The fight is not just for autonomy, but for the restoration of dignity, democracy, and justice in Jammu and Kashmir. India’s democracy cannot claim to be complete while one of its regions remains disenfranchised,” Inqlabi asserted.
He urged civil society, political parties, and democratic institutions across the country to raise their voice in support of the constitutional and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
