Jammu : The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled its leader who is also a lawyer from border district Rajouri for attending a workshop on leadership organised by an RSS affiliated NGO in Mumbai.
Advocate Ahsan Mirza, who was additional advocate General during PDP-BJP government, was expelled from the basic membership of the party.
A party leader said that Mirza has attended several meetings of BJP in recent months but “same was ignored by the party despite complaints filed by local leaders”.
However attending an RSS sponsored leadership workshop in Mumbai is said to have triggered his expulsion. Around 40 young leaders from Jammu and Kashmir attended the programme where they were given training on how to educate people about benefits of abrogation of Article 370.
The action was taken on the recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee of the party, which examined several complaints against Mr Mirza for resorting to the activities which are completely in contradiction to the basic policy of the organisation. Most recent being his participation in an RSS backed Leadership Program.
A party spokesman said that the Committee was satisfied that Mr Mirza has been openly defying the organisational policies and his activities were detrimental to the party interests.
He is as such being expelled from the basic membership of the party, the spokesperson added.
Insiders said that party leadership was under pressure to act against the leader as his close proximity with RSS was bringing bad name to the organisation in Muslim dominated Rajouri.
“Initially he was claiming to project the demand of Pahari speaking people on which the leadership adopted a neutral role. But attending RSS programmes as PDP man was not acceptable”, a leader said.
