Handwara, NOVEMBER 27:–A group of Temporary and Permanent Daily Labourers (TDL and PDL) of the Power Development Department (PDD) on Wednesday held a protest here, demanding regularization of their services and compensation to the affected labourers who have lost their lives or suffered injuries on duty.

The protestors said that they have been working in the department for several years on meagre salaries “but the department is not regularizing our services.”

Bashir Ahmad, a protestor, said that several employees have lost their lives while repairing the live wires and their families are still waiting for compensation from the department.

Another protestor said, “PDDs Departmental Promotional Committee in the year 2019 decided that daily wagers would be regularized as per available vacancies but at the same time “officials are deliberately delaying our issues.”

The protesting PDL, TDL workers said if their demands were not fulfilled within a short period of time they would launch an indefinite strike. “Whatever the consequences of the protest will be, the department will be responsible for the same,” they said.
