SRINAGAR OCT, 28:-MLA Rajouri, Iftkhar Ahmed, raised serious concerns over the state of education in his constituency during the ongoing Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, urging the government to prioritize staffing and infrastructure gaps in border-area schools.
Highlighting multiple issues while questioning the Education Minister, the MLA said that several government schools are functioning without adequate buildings and many face an alarming shortage of teachers. He stressed that such challenges pose a direct threat to the quality of education for students in Rajouri.
In response, the Education Minister confirmed that although no school is operating “under the open sky,” 14 schools continue to run from rented premises. He said instructions have been issued to the Chief Education Officers to identify suitable state land for constructing permanent buildings at the earliest.
The Minister also acknowledged the severity of the staffing crisis. As per official data, 31 out of 83 lecturer posts, 61 out of 170 master posts, and 211 out of 622 teacher posts remain vacant in Rajouri constituency. To address the shortage, he informed that 595 lecturer posts have already been referred to the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the recruitment process is underway.
On the issue of unregulated fee hikes in private schools, the Minister said the government has constituted a Fee Fixation Committee, chaired by a retired High Court Judge, to ensure transparency and prevent exploitation of parents.
Reiterating the importance of education for the region, MLA Iftkhar Ahmed urged the government to fast-track both recruitment and infrastructure development.
