SRINAGAR-JAMMU JAN, 10:-The Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (JKRETTF) has welcomed the Union Territory of Ladakh’s decision to remove the non-transferable clause from Government Order No. 20-Edu of 2019, which had earlier declared Rehbar-e-Taleem (RET), ReT Grade-II (RG-II) and Teacher Grade-III (TG-III) teachers as non-transferable except on mutual grounds.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Forum described the move as welcome, progressive and teacher-friendly, stating that it has brought long-pending relief to thousands of teachers who remained confined to their initial postings for years due to rigid service conditions.

The Chief Spokesperson of JKRETTF said the Ladakh administration’s decision reflects a humane and pragmatic approach towards addressing genuine service-related hardships faced by teachers and sets a positive precedent for other administrations to emulate.
Expressing hope, he urged the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to take a cue from Ladakh UT and adopt a similar transfer policy in the larger interest of the teaching fraternity.
The spokesperson further said that JKRETTF Chairman, Farooq Ahmed Tantray, has also lauded the Ladakh administration for correcting a long-standing anomaly. He expressed optimism that the committee constituted by the J&K Government to examine teachers’ issues would recommend the removal of the non-transferable clause for RET teachers as well.

Highlighting the issue, the Forum noted that over 60,000 teachers appointed under the Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme in Jammu and Kashmir have remained posted at the same stations for more than two decades, despite changing family, medical and social circumstances. Prolonged stagnation, the Forum said, has adversely affected teachers’ morale and efficiency.

Reiterating its demand, JKRETTF called for the withdrawal of the non-transferable condition in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure equity, mobility and dignity in service for RET teachers, in line with the decision taken by the Union Territory of Ladakh.
