RAJOURI OCTOBER 11
:–One JCO among five soldiers has attained martyrdom In an ongoing encounter with a group of about 5-6 terrorists in the forested areas of Chamrer village in the early morning hours on Monday in Poonch district.
After specific inputs about the presence of the group in the forests in Shahdara area (in Rajouri district) and in adjoining areas close to Dera-Ki-Gali (DKG–meeting point of Rajouri & Poonch districts) in Poonch district, a counter Terrorist joint operation was launched by the Army & J&K police on Sunday night.
According to sources, a contact was established with the terrorists in the early morning hours on Monday and during the conduct of the operation, hiding terrorists brought down a heavy volume of fire on to Army troops.
“Heavy volume of fire on to Army troops by the hiding terrorists lead to fatal injuries to one JCO and four soldiers and the gallant soldier made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty” said the Army.
“Based on intelligence inputs, in the morning (Monday) Indian Army launched a cordon & search operation in villages close to DKG in Surankot jurisdiction of Poonch district. During the ongoing encounter one JCO and 4 jawans suffered critical injuries & were evacuated to a nearest medical facility, but succumbs to their injuries” said Lt Col Devender Anand, PRO Defence, Jammu.
The martyrs have been identified as Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh, SM resident of district Talwandi; Naik Mandeep Singh of Gurdaspur district; Sepo Gajjan Singh resident of Ropar district (all from Punjab State); Sepoy Saraj Singh resident of Shahjahnpur district in UP, and Sepoy Vaisakh H resident of Kollam district in Kerala State.
In the evening hours, a fresh contact with a terrorist was established in Panghai village (in Thanamandi tehsil) and intermittent firing was going on at the time of filing this report.
If sources are to be believed, this group is active in Shahdara & adjoining areas of Poonch district along DKG and it can’t be ruled out that they have been tasked to spread terror in both the districts by executing killings of innocent civilians like the present situation in Kashmir valley.
The bodies of the soldiers have been shifted to Surankot hospital for legal-medico formalities and postmortems.
Two terrorists were killed in the forested areas of Panghai village on August 6 while a JCO, Sub Ram Singh had attained martyrdom in Dana village, adjoining to Panghai and one terrorist was also killed.
Additional forces were rushed to the area and the entire belt in both the districts has been brought under the cordon.
All the terrorists involved in the encounter taking advantage of the dense forests slipped from the encounter site and have taken shelter in the safer hideouts.
