JAMMU MARCH, 05 :–Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference(JK-BADC) a registered organization working for the welfare of residents of border areas of J & K has urged the Jammu and Kashmir government, Union Ministry of Power and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to provide alternative sources of power in border and hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir as due to scarcity of electricity in peak season of summer and winter when the demand of power is high, these areas remain high and dry and the people are made to suffer.
Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik Chairman of the BADC and former Vice Chancellor while expressing displeasure over the situation of power shortage in hilly and border areas of J & K said that despite having highest potential for Hydro electricity in Jammu and Kashmir as compared to rest of India yet the border residents are deprived of power.
While blaming the previous regimes of different political parties, the former VC alleged that they did not pay any heed towards the power sector and innocent people were endured because of their follies especially the remote and border areas of J & K suffered the most.
Advocating for alternative power sources like Installation of Solar, Wind energy turbines, Bio-energy, mini and micro hydro projects, Dr Shazad said that there are several reason for shortage of conventional hydro electricity in these remote and hilly areas therefore it is imperative that government of Jammu and Kashmir consider providing alterative sources of power to people of border areas and generate the power at their villages and blocks.
