RAJOURI, JUNE 21:–Yoga is being promoted as a way of life after its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 & since then Yoga has been celebrated on June 21 across the world annually.
Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India and on Wednesday a large number of enthusiasts from 135 countries joined Prime Minister, Narendra Modi at United Nations HQ for Yoga Session on the occasion of 9th International Yoga Day-2023.
In Rajouri district International Yoga Day (IYD) was also celebrated by the Department of Ayush in collaboration with the District Administration; at Government Medical College (GMC) at Mehra & Associated Hospital GMC (AH GMC) at Kheora; across Medical Block Nowshera; & by BGSB University.
THE DEPARTMENT OF AYUSH in collaboration with the District Administration celebrated International Yoga Day at a sports stadium where people from all walks of life, including school children and females, actively participated in the event.
Prominent among the participants include DDC Chairperson Adv Naseem Liakat; Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal; Additional DC, Rajeev Khajuria; Additional SP, Vivek Shekhar; DYS&SO, S S Sambyal; District Agriculture Officer, Sohan Singh; DSWO, Wakeel Ahmed Bhat; CMO, Dr. Rajinder Kumar.
DSWO also administrated the pledge for Nasha Mukt Bharat to the participants. The event was presided over by Dr. Rakesh Shan, District Ayush Officer.
The Yoga session was conducted by D. Rajan Sharma along with Yoga Instructors Raghav, Naresh, and Dr. Tahir Sajid & the proceedings were conducted by Dr. R k Bajaj.
AT GMC MEHRA & and AHGMC KHEORA International Yoga Day was celebrated under the overall supervision of Principal GMC, Prof. (Dr.) A S Bhatia and the events were attended by Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar, Medical Superintendent AHGMC; Administrative officer, Sanjay Tendon; nursing staff, Paramedics, and students.

The event at GMC Mehra campus was organised by Jagatar Singh, Sports Assistant GMC & facilitated by Dr. Ritu Slathia, AP Department of Anatomy, and Dr. Prabhjot Singh, AP Department of Physiology.
“An invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition, Yoga has emerged as one of the most trusted means to boost physical and mental well-being,” said Dr. Mehmood Hussain.
In its resolution, the UNGA endorsed that Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being apart from striking a balance between all aspects of life. The wide dissemination of information about the benefits of practicing Yoga would be beneficial for the health of the world population, he added.
AT BGSBU the Yoga Instructors initially briefed about the essence of Yoga exercises and thereafter held a 1-hour practice session with a demonstration of Yoga Asanas.
The Vice-Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Prof. Akbar Masood joined the celebrations and also practiced Yoga along with other participants.
Prof. Akbar Masood emphasized the importance of yoga for physical, mental, and spiritual health.
“Yoga is one of the greatest gifts that India has given to the whole world, said Prof. Akbar Masood.
Registrar, BGSBU, Mohd Ishaq; Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, faculty members, officers, and staff participated in a Yoga session.
IYD WAS ALSO CELEBRATED ACROSS NOWSHERA Health Block under the supervision of CMO, Dr. Rajinder Kumar & BMO, Dr. Iqbal Malik.
Yoga sessions were also organised in almost all the health centers across Medical Block Nowshera.
“IYD is aimed at promoting awareness of the enduring benefits of the ancient practice known as Yoga. It is a priceless gift from ancient Indian culture which, now, has emerged as one of the trusted methods of improving both physical as well as mental health,” said Dr. Iqbal Malik, BMO.
