MENDHAR FEBRUARY 04:-In a significant initiative aimed at promoting public health awareness and strengthening civil–military cooperation, an extensive awareness programme on the occasion of World Cancer Day was organised at Government Degree College, Mendhar on 04 February 2026. The programme was conducted by Ramkund Gunners on behalf of Dhanidhar Gunners, under the globally recognised theme “United by Unique”.
The event witnessed active participation from nearly 100 students and faculty members of the college, reflecting strong community engagement and growing awareness about the importance of cancer education. The primary objective of the programme was to disseminate accurate information about cancer, counter myths and misconceptions, and sensitise young minds about prevention, early detection and timely medical intervention.
During the session, emphasis was laid on understanding the early warning signs of cancer, the role of regular screening, and the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices to reduce cancer risks. Medical awareness inputs highlighted how factors such as balanced nutrition, avoidance of tobacco and alcohol, regular physical activity and stress management can play a crucial role in cancer prevention. Students were also encouraged to seek medical consultation at the earliest sign of abnormal symptoms, underlining that early diagnosis significantly improves treatment outcomes and survival rates.
A key highlight of the programme was the sharing of real-life experiences of cancer survivors, which left a deep and lasting impact on the audience. These personal accounts conveyed a strong message of hope, resilience and determination, reinforcing the fact that cancer is not a death sentence and can be successfully treated if detected early and managed with timely and appropriate medical care. Adding to the effectiveness of the message, an awareness skit performed by college students creatively portrayed the journey of cancer patients, the importance of family and community support, and the power of mental strength in overcoming the disease.
The programme also underscored the Indian Army’s continued commitment to community welfare and public health initiatives beyond its core defence responsibilities. Through such outreach activities, the Army reaffirmed its role as a trusted partner of the people, contributing to social development while strengthening civil–military relations in the region. The interaction between Army personnel, students and faculty fostered mutual understanding and highlighted the Army’s proactive involvement in addressing social and health-related challenges.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion session, during which students and lecturers actively engaged with the speakers, sought clarifications and shared their perspectives on cancer awareness and prevention. The discussions reinforced the collective responsibility of society in spreading awareness, supporting patients and promoting a cancer-aware and cancer-free community.
The successful conduct of the World Cancer Day awareness programme at Government Degree College, Mendhar stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s dedication towards nation-building through community engagement, health education and sustained efforts to create a more informed, healthy and resilient society.
