Indian Army Celebrated 6th Armed Forces Veterans Day at Gonipura, Kupwara

KUPWARA JANUARY 14(GNS ONLINE) :—Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated to honour the sacrifice of our veterans in serving the nation. It is observed on 14 January every year since 2017. This day recognises the services rendered by the Field Marshal KM Cariappa OBE, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces who retired on January 14 in 1953.

The event was celebrated in Govt Hospital, Gonipura wherein the Veterans from Jugtiyal attended the said event. The event started with address of Maj Arun Singh who thanked the Veterans for all the sacrifices made by them and to lay down the strong foundation for the sovereignty and honour of the nation. They were also told about the various schemes by govt for them and also cautioned about the increasing number of cases of COVID-19. Following all the COVID-19 protocols the Veterans attended the event and even the RAT testing of the Veterans was carried out.
Students of Higher Secondary School, Halmatpora who are undergoing training for NCC showed their gratitude and respect by displaying the drills and saluting them for their valour and hard work that they rendered during their services. Even the Veterans appreciated the dedication of these students who performed for them in the snow covered ground.
The problems of the Veterans were also discussed and were promised that their sacrifices will never be forgotten and that they will always remain as the part of this huge family called Armed Forces.
