RAJOURIJUNE, 14:–Three horses died of electrocution after they came in contact with a live High Tension line wire that fell down in the rivulet in Malhoot Panchyat of Darhal tehsil in Rajouri district in the morning on Tuesday.
The owners of the horses, namely Abdul Qadeer and Mohammad Sadiq both residents of Palyarni village in Darhal tehsil had a narrow escape as they ran away after watching the horses dying due to electric current.
Narrating the incident, Abdul and Qadeer said in the morning they crossed the rivulet along with horses for their daily routine work.
“On our way back to our homes, while crossing the rivulet, a high tension wire passing over the rivulet fell down on three horses and they died on the spot due to strong shock,” they said.
Locals claimed that for the last many years they have been complaining about the use of thin wire by the department on the HT line over a large span over the rivulet.
As the owners were holding the leash of the horses they escaped with minor injuries.
The locals have demanded action against the concerned Power Development Department officials and suitable financial assistance to the poor labourers as they have suffered a loss of about Rs 2 lakh in the deaths of the horses.
