Hostels having inadequate water/power supply alleges MBBS student, held protest at GMC Rajouri.

RAJOURI, JUNE 13:–Annoyed over the inadequate availability of water and power supply in the hostels (hired private buildings), MBBS students of Government Medical College Rajouri today held a protest in front of the Government Medical College & Associated Hospital (GMC&AH) against the district administration and GMC authorities.
Students also claimed that they are not getting quality food in the hostels and adequate transportation, and they are facing difficulties in carrying out their studies in the absence of the required water and power supply.
“Most of the time students miss their first class due to inadequate transportation and water supply. Even we don’t get quality food in the hostels” said Insha, 2nd year student.
These students were demanding to shift to hostels in the new building (waiting for official handover to GMC administration) of GMC Rajouri.
Later the student’s deputation along with Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar, Medical Superintendent (MS) GMC&AH met Vikas Kundal, Deputy Commissioner (DC), and apparised him about their problems.
It was decided to take up the matter with the concerned higher authorities. Vikas Kundal, directed the Jal Shakti department officers to provide a bore well facility on priority for the hostels in the new GMC complex.
He also assured to give additional charges to concerned engineers of Jal Shakti and Power Development to look after the management of water & power supply in the new GMC campus.
Immediately after DC’s assurance, Executive Engineer Jal Shakti vide his order No.PHER/2213 dt 13/6/2022 has asked Ashwani Kumar JE to look after the required infrastructure at Civil Medical College/hostel at Mehra.
Dr. Mehmood, MS, GMC&AH informed the DC that the GMC has purchased invertors and soon will be installed in the hotels to meet the power requirement of the students.
The upcoming power station at the new GMC complex is expected to be made functional after 5-6 months.
Classes of the first batch at Government Medical College Rajouri (GMC Rajouri) were started with the allotment of 100 MBBS seats on August 4 in 2019.
As there was no building for the new Medical College, the classes were commenced in the building of District Hospital (after creation of additional infrastructure) and two private buildings were hired in Danidhar area for boys and girls hostels.
Now the third batch has started and the strength of the students has increased to about 340 and the hired buildings for hotels don’t have sufficient required water /power supply and the inmates facing many difficulties.
It is pertinent to mention here that the construction work on the GMC building project was approved at a cost of Rs 139 crore (first phase) and was started in the year 2017.
The project was to be completed by March 2019 but it has already been delayed by about three years.
