**Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza Inaugurates Pool B Poonch–Rajouri Zone Matches; GDC Nowshera Triumphs Over GDC Sunderbani**

RAJOURI OCT 28:-The Department of Sports & Physical Education, Government P.G. College Rajouri, today inaugurated the Inter-Collegiate Cricket Men Tournament 2025 for Pool B of the Poonch–Rajouri Zone at the college sports ground with great enthusiasm and participation.
Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, Principal of the host college, graced the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Prof. Mirza lauded the commendable efforts of the Department of Sports & Physical Education and the College Sports Committee for organizing the event successfully. He also interacted with the players and match officials, encouraging them to uphold sportsmanship and fair play throughout the tournament.
Dr. Zakir Hussain Kalis, Convener of the Sports Committee, delivered the welcome address, extending warm greetings to the dignitaries and participating teams.
The opening match featured GDC Nowshera against GDC Sunderbani. Batting first after winning the toss, GDC Sunderbani managed a modest total of 122 runs in 20 overs. GDC Nowshera’s Uday Bakshi was exceptional with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 26 runs in his 4-over spell. In reply, GDC Nowshera chased down the target convincingly, securing victory by 8 wickets. Skipper Arjun Khokar played a blistering knock of 76 runs off just 25 balls, including 8 sixes and 6 fours, earning him the Man of the Match award.
The match was officiated by Mr. Ghulam Mustafa and Mr. Deepak Kumar, with Mr. Shamsheer Ahmed serving as the scorer.
The inaugural event drew a large gathering of staff, students, and sports enthusiasts from the host institution. Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Physical Director, presented the formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the support and coordination of all contributors. Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Mukesh Kumar and Major Tanwir for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.
The event marked an inspiring beginning to the inter-collegiate sports season, highlighting the college’s commitment to promoting athletic excellence and camaraderie among youth across the region.
