RAJOURI DECM 26:-Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri on Friday accorded a warm welcome to its 7th batch of 100 MBBS students during a gala cultural function held at the Mehra campus.

The newly admitted students hail from various parts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as well as different states across India. Of the total intake, 85 seats have been filled under the UT quota, while 15 seats are allotted through the All India Quota (AIQ).

Prof. (Dr.) Harleen Kour, Professor of Microbiology, GMC Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She welcomed the students and extended her best wishes for a successful and fulfilling medical career.

Prof. (Dr.) A.S. Bhatia, Principal, GMC Rajouri, warmly greeted the new entrants and appreciated their decision to pursue medicine, describing it as a noble and demanding profession. He emphasized the values of hard work, discipline, determination, and resilience, which are essential for success in the medical field. The students were also briefed about the institution’s history, academic framework, rules, and regulations.

A vibrant cultural program added colour to the event, featuring Bhangra performances and Kashmiri and Dogri folk songs, showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity. The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Vidhushi, Cultural Chairperson and Professor, Department of ENT, GMC Rajouri.

The MBBS course at GMC Rajouri—the only medical college serving the Rajouri–Poonch border districts—was initiated in 2019. With the current academic session, the institution has successfully admitted its 7th MBBS batch, maintaining an approved intake of 100 students per year.

It is noteworthy that GMC Rajouri achieved 100 percent results in university examinations, with all students of the first batch passing, many with distinctions. The college continues to uphold high standards of medical education and healthcare delivery, contributing significantly to the Peer Panjal region.

GMC Rajouri is also the only medical college in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir to have been awarded a Bronze Certificate for Quality under Ayushman Bharat by the Government of India.
