SRINAGAR JANUARY 26:-Kashmir marked a significant milestone in strengthening its agricultural supply chain with the arrival of the first rake of IFFCO Natural-K fertilizer through the railway network. This historic consignment is the first instance of fertilizers reaching the Valley by train, a development expected to greatly improve availability, especially during the winter months when road connectivity is often disrupted due to heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions.
Until now, the transportation of fertilizers to Kashmir depended largely on road routes, which frequently faced closures and delays, leading to shortages at critical times. The introduction of rail-based transportation is set to change this scenario by ensuring a faster, safer, and more reliable supply chain. This move is expected to directly benefit farmers and contribute to enhanced agricultural productivity across the region.
Officials said that rail connectivity would play a key role in ensuring the timely supply of essential agricultural inputs. With improved reliability, farmers will be able to plan their cropping seasons more effectively and reduce their dependence on uncertain road transport. Mohammad Asif Lone and Malik Mehraj, Field Officers of IFFCO, stated that the initiative would significantly strengthen fertilizer distribution and ensure smoother and more consistent availability throughout the Valley.
Officials further expressed gratitude to the Government of India, the Ministry of Cooperation, the Ministry of Railways, and the IFFCO management for their continued support and forward-looking approach. Special appreciation was extended to the Chairman of IFFCO, the Managing Director, the Marketing Director, and the entire IFFCO team for making this landmark initiative a reality.
The arrival of the first fertilizer rake by rail is being widely seen as a major step towards strengthening agricultural infrastructure in Kashmir. It reflects a strong commitment to farmer welfare, sustainable agriculture, and long-term regional development, offering new hope and stability to the farming community of the Valley.
