SRINAGAR NOV 27:-Faculty of Forestry SKUAST-K Conducted one day entrepreneurship and awareness programme on Livelihood development by rehabilitation of degraded lands

Division of Silviculture & Agroforestry, Faculty of Forestry, Benhama Ganderbal SKUAST-Kashmir conducted one day awareness programme today on 27/11/2024 on ‘Livelihood development by rehabilitation of degraded lands through adoption of agroforestry practices supported by MSME at Mission N coaching center Margund Kangan Ganderbal. The event was attended by more than fifty students and unemployed youth of Kangan and adjoining areas. The programme started with the introductory remarks by Dr. Nazir A. Pala, Associate Professor, Division of SAF, Faculty of Forestry, who gave a detailed account of this training programme and its importance among students and unemployed youth. Dr. G. M. Bhat, Coordinator, Professor and Head Silviculture and Agroforestry, Faculty of Forestry delivered a detailed lecture about rehabilitation of degraded lands through adaption of region specific agroforestry models. In his speech he stressed on the importance of such gatherings essential for fulfilling the aspirations and vision of doubling the income of farmers which can be done only through adoption of agro forestry practices. He also discussed the scope and importance of different tree species suitable for degraded land conditions and preferred inter crops which can be grown in these systems. In his detailed presentation, Professor Bhat discussed different success stories of rehabilitation of degraded lands thereby encouraging the people to become job Providers and not job seekers. Dr. Megna Rashid Scientist division of SAF spoke about the importance and need of such trainings. Insights and challenges faced, and solutions adopted by the farmers and concerned stakeholders were also discussed. Dr Bhat, Coordinator of the programme thanked sponsoring agency MSME, University administration, Nodal officer and Director Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Haroon Naik, Dean Faculty of Forestry for their support and guidance.
