RAJOURI NOVEMBER 11:
— Fear has gripped the BGSBU campus once again after a Leopard was spotted on the second consecutive day sitting along the roadside near the Polytechnic College in the late evening hours on Thursday.
On Wednesday the Leopard was sitting on the roadside near the hostels while on Thursday it was spotted along the road near the Auditorium of Polytechnic College in the late evening hours.
On Wednesday University Administration had informed the District administration and the Wild Life Department officials.
A Wild Life team along with police personnel on Thursday visited the BGSBU campus, which is situated along a thick forest and in the vicinity of two forest closures.
“BGSBU is situated along the forested area and two forest closures and the presence of wild animals (Leopards) can’t be ruled out. Moreover, our team has found no fence in between forest area and the campus which is mandatory to stop the stray of Leopards inside the campus in search of prey” said Mushtaq Chowdhary, Warden Wild Life.
Our team has also noticed the presence of a large number of stray dogs inside the BGSBU campus, which is easy prey for the Leopard and another reason for venturing of Leopard(s) inside the campus, he added.
“BGSBU Administration has been advised to reduce immediately the number of stray dogs from inside the campus and for raising fence along forest area. Security personnel guarding the varsity campus have been given high-intensity crackers because the sound and the odour of the crackers forced the wild animal (Leopard) to flee from that area” said Warden Wild Life.
After the presence of wild animals in the thickly forested area around the University campus in search of prey following the onset of the winter season, on Tuesday Chief Proctor in an advisory had warned students and faculty members against roaming in and around the campus and refrain from lurking in the thickly vegetated areas after dark.
In another advisory issued on Thursday, all the students, scholars, and faculty members have been asked to leave the departments after sunset
