SRINAGAR MAY 08:– Senior PDP leader Mohammad Farooq Inqlabi has issued a strong condemnation against what he termed as “blatantly false and defamatory reporting” by national media channels ZEE News,News18 & ABVP. The controversy revolves around the mischaracterization of Qari Mohammad Iqbal, who was martyred during heavy cross-border shelling in Poonch.
“These channels irresponsibly labeled Qari Mohammad Iqbal as a terrorist and falsely claimed that he was the mastermind behind the Pulwama and Pahalgam attacks, alleging he was killed by Indian forces,” Inqlabi said in a statement. “The truth is that Qari Mohammad Iqbal was a respectable Indian citizen who lost his life due to shelling by the Pakistan Army. To brand such a man as a terrorist is not only factually incorrect but a gross insult to his sacrifice and to the sentiments of his family and community.”
Farooq Inqlabi demanded the immediate registration of an FIR against ZEE News and News18, urging authorities to take strict action. “Such baseless reporting by sections of the national media is not just unprofessional but is actively fueling division among communities and disturbing the peace in our nation,” he added.
He further emphasized that “every Muslim who wears a cap and sports a beard should not be stereotyped or vilified. The media must act responsibly and avoid targeting respected members of the Muslim community, whose patriotism and sacrifices are no less than anyone else’s.”
Inqlabi also demanded that the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister issue a clear statement on the matter. “Their silence raises serious questions and doubts among the people. When false narratives are being spread by national media, the government’s silence can be interpreted as tacit approval. The highest offices in the country must speak out to ensure justice and communal harmony,” he stated.
