RAJOURI-DELHI JULY 30:-In a significant step toward building its conventional missile force, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two consecutive successful flight tests of the Pralay quasi-ballistic missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on July 28 and 29.
The tests were carried out as part of User Evaluation Trials (UET) to validate the missile system’s minimum and maximum range capabilities.
Pralay is an indigenously developed, solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic surface-to-surface missile equipped with state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems, ensuring high precision. It is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads to neutralize a variety of targets.
Both missiles precisely followed the intended trajectories and hit the designated targets with pinpoint accuracy, meeting all test objectives.
All subsystems performed as expected. The performance was validated using test data collected from various tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), including instruments placed on a ship near the designated impact point.
The Pralay missile system has been developed by the Research Centre Imarat, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories such as the Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research & Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), and ITR.
The project also includes contributions from industry partners, including Bharat Dynamics and Bharat Electronics Limited, other industries, and MSMEs.
The flight tests were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, user representatives from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, and industry officials.
The Indian Army has already approved the acquisition of the Pralay missile. It is expected to be deployed along both the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners for the successful flight tests.
“The missile equipped with modern technologies will give a further technological boost to the Armed Forces against emerging threats,” he said.
Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, and DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat also congratulated the teams, stating: “The successful completion of these Phase-1 flight tests paves the way for the system’s induction into the Armed Forces shortly.”
