POONCH JANUARY 01:-Dr. Shamim Ahmad Banday, hailing from the remote border district of Poonch in Jammu & Kashmir, has emerged as a distinguished academician, scientist, researcher, and social reformer, earning recognition at national and international levels. His inspiring journey from a far-flung village to the global academic arena stands as a testament to determination, self-reliance, and unwavering commitment to education.

Born and raised in the remote village of Arai, Dr. Banday completed his schooling up to the 8th standard at the local village school. He later pursued higher secondary education at Government Higher Secondary School, Mandi, commuting daily under challenging terrain and limited resources. He went on to complete his graduation from Government Degree College, Poonch, before pursuing advanced studies and research at the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where his academic and scientific potential fully blossomed.

Coming from a modest background, Dr. Banday displayed remarkable self-dependence from an early age. To support his education, he sold small items such as toffees and biscuits to meet expenses for books and fees. He later taught tuition classes, worked in academies, and took up part-time jobs while simultaneously continuing his research work—an enduring reflection of his resilience and dedication.

With over 20 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Shamim Ahmad Banday currently serves as an Associate Professor. His academic achievements include the publication of 19 books and nearly 50 research papers in reputed national and international journals with high impact factors. He has participated in 187 national and international conferences, served as a keynote speaker at several prestigious forums, and has been honored with around 25 national and international awards.

Beyond academics, Dr. Banday is actively engaged in social service and educational upliftment. Through the Super Thirty College of Competitions, he supports students from economically weaker and remote backgrounds. He has also established a free-access library for underprivileged students and provides free coaching, career counseling, mentorship, and online classes, particularly benefiting students in distant areas.

Deeply committed to youth welfare, Dr. Banday plays a vital role in guiding young people away from drug abuse and social evils, encouraging them toward constructive and meaningful pursuits. As a mentor, he has become a guiding force for countless students, helping them build pathways to a brighter future.

Today, Dr. Shamim Ahmad Banday is a respected name in Poonch district, across Jammu & Kashmir, and beyond. By representing the Union Territory and India on numerous international academic platforms, he has significantly contributed to enhancing the region’s academic and scientific standing globally.
