RAJOURI DECEMBER 08:--The doctors here at Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AHGMC) Rajouri has successfully managed a large liver abscess (20X15cms in size) with Ultrasound guided percutaneous pigtail drainage on a 26-year-old male patient.
The procedure was performed by a team of doctors, including Assistant Professor Radiology, Dr. Waseem Sheikh; Associate Professor Surgery, Dr. Mudasir Khan; Consultant Surgeon, Dr Shahid Anjum Awan; Consultant Radiology, Dr. Arshad Choudhary; MO Dept of Radiology, Dr. Javed Rishi, and supporting staff.
The Department of Radiology GMC Rajouri is doing many more minimal access procedures routinely under International Radiology avoiding open surgeries.
Ultrasound guided percutaneous drainage is one form of image guided procedure, allowing minimally invasive treatment of collections that are accessible by ultrasound study.
It has been long established that open surgeries were the only options available for the management of intra-abdominal abscesses or collections. With the advent of ultrasound, percutaneous pigtail-catheter drainage has proven to be minimally invasive and allows precise localization of the drainage site.
