RAJOURI, APRIL 29:—
A strong protest was held at Gujral Chowk in Nowshera town in Rajouri district on Friday by the activists of Hindu organisations against the police’s failure to identify/arrest unidentified miscreants for dishonouring the national flag hoisted on the Sub-district hospital on Wednesday evening.
The protesters gave a 4-hour ultimatum to the police to arrest the culprits otherwise the protest will continue.
In the evening Additional SP (ASP), Nowshera Amit Verma in a press briefing informed that one Koushal Kumar s/o Romesh Chanader r/o Ward No.7 Nowshera was rounded up after the statements of a few eyewitnesses were recorded by the police during the investigation.
“This person (Koushal Kumar), according to family & other reports, is of unsound mind. The information will be investigated formally in the coming days ” said ASP.
According to police sources, Koushal Kumar is undergoing treatment, and earlier also (about 3 months ago) he had connected the 11 KV feeder wires resulting in damaging the main transformer.
After that Koushal was admitted to the mental hospital at Jammu with the help of Nowshera police, sources added.
“Since the investigation is still going on further details shall be updated separately,” ASP said.
SSP, Rajouri Mohd Aslam assured the public of the early completion of a fair and impartial investigation into the instant case.
It is pertinent to mention that some unidentified miscreants dishonoured the national flag 9 burnt flag was found) hoisted on the hospital building on Wednesday evening.
Immediately after the information was received, a police team from the Nowshera police station rushed to the hospital and examined the site, and collected the material for further investigation.
A case under section 2-Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act was registered at Nowshera police station.
Senior police officers also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under SDPO Nowshera & assisted by SHO and an investigation was set into motion to bring the culprits to book.
