RAJOURI, JULY 16:–Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal on Saturday chaired a meeting of the concerned officers/officials to discuss the implementation of ‘World’s largest grain storage plan in the cooperative sector’ in the district.
In the month of May 2023, the Union Cabinet granted its approval for the establishment of the ‘World’s largest grain storage plan in the cooperative sector’ with a budget of approximately Rs 1 lakh crore with an aim to enhance food security, prevent crop damage, and alleviate distress sales by farmers.
In order to ensure time-bound and uniform implementation of the Plan in a professional manner, Ministry of Cooperation will implement a pilot project in at least 10 selected districts of different States/ UTs in the country.
“‘World’s largest grain storage plan in the cooperative sector’ is an ambitious project that aims to revolutionize the agriculture sector and revive the cooperative movement to empower farmers and promote inclusive growth,” said Vikas Kundal.
He highlighted that the project would not only provide better storage facilities for grains, but would also help in reducing post-harvest losses, enhance farmers’ income and boost agricultural productivity.
“The project aims to establish a dependable grain storage facility. The facility will be managed by the cooperative societies, with the support of the district administration and other stakeholders & is expected to benefit a number of farmers in the region,” he added.
It will also play a crucial role in ensuring food security and reducing wastage in the agriculture sector. DC Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, expressed his gratitude towards all the stakeholders for their active participation and contribution towards the project.
“The district administration would extend all possible support to make the project a success & would also work towards the speedy implementation of the project in making it a shining example of the power of the cooperative movement in promoting sustainable development,” said Vikas Kundal..
In addition to the cooperative-led grain storage plan, DC Rajouri directed the department functionaries to put in dedicated efforts to achieve the assigned targets within set deadlines and strengthen the cooperative movement in the district.
