District Vigilance Officers are Reluctant in taking Action against their ‘Corrupt Colleagues’ in Poonch: BADC

GNS ONLINE:

JAMMU MARCH 31 :– Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference, JK-BADC, a registered organization working for the welfare of residents of border areas have urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to strengthen the anti-corruption apparatus and bring accountability in the governance system.

While addressing one day youth conference in Panchayat Auchad of block Mankote in border town Mendhar today, Dr Shazad Malik former Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the JK-BADC said that despite tall claims of placing anti-corruption and pro-people friendly system in place by the J & K government, the situation in far flung and border areas of J & K and most specifically in district Poonch remains unchanged.
Citing the example of certain departments including, PHE, PWD, Rural Development Department and Rural Engineering Wing, the former VC said, on daily basis he gets information from youth that the concerned officers are either not making payment of the contract works executed by them and deliberately sitting on files for months and years for petty reasons. He also highlighted the plight of different water supply schemes started by PHE department in border town Mendhar, poor quality roads, buildings constructed by PWD and REW, in several water supply schemes initiated by Jal Shakti department(PHE) crores of rupees had been spent but till date these schemes have failed to provide even a drop of clean drinking water to the border residents.
The BADC Chairperson further informed that though there are District Vigilance Officers DVOs designated by the respective departments but they too prefer to keep mum to save their corrupt colleagues and unfortunately corruption have become an obvious element of governance in border district Poonch.
He also appealed the youth to make positive use of social media and highlight corruption related issues and other grievances of the villagers.
