Contractors Suffering Badly Due to Irresponsible Attitude of Engineer, Alleges Contractors Association

RAJOURI, AUGUST 29:=After the appointment of a new Junior Engineer (JE-Headquarter) in the Public Works Department, Rajouri Division, the entire online payment system has plunged into chaos. Owing to the negligence and irresponsible attitude of the said engineer, contractors have been suffering badly since February 2025.

A spokesperson of the Pir Panjal Contractors Association stated that, despite completing their allotted works on time, many contractors have been unable to get their bills processed, as previous works have not been uploaded online by the concerned engineer. It is alleged that the delay is deliberate, with contractors being harassed and pressured to meet unfair demands before their bills are cleared.

This attitude has caused widespread resentment among the contractors’ community, which is already under financial strain due to rising costs. The negligence of the engineer, they said, is not only stalling development works in Rajouri but also severely damaging the credibility of the Public Works Department.

“It is pertinent to mention here that contractors play an important role in the development of the country, as they contribute significantly to the government treasury by paying a huge amount in taxes,” the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, the contractors’ community has appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Works Minister Surinder Choudhary, along with the Chief Engineer and Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, to take serious note of the matter and ensure immediate redressal so that contractors receive their rightful payments without any harassment or delay.
