MENDHAR DECM 29:-The long-pending construction of Masjid Chotay Shah Badshah has once again become a major public concern in Mendhar, as repeated assurances by the concerned authorities have failed to materialise, triggering widespread resentment among local residents.

According to locals, the construction work of the Masjid was halted nearly four years ago, severely hurting the religious sentiments of devotees. Following sustained public pressure and repeated appeals, the work was resumed around six months ago. However, it was abruptly stopped once again without any official explanation, leaving the project incomplete and the public deeply disappointed.

In protest against the continued negligence, prominent local figures along with members of the general public collectively decided to stop the opening of the Ziyarat’s donation box for nearly two months. This peaceful move compelled the Waqf Inspector and the Executive Engineer (XEN) of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board to visit the site. During their visit, officials assured the public that construction work would resume within a week. Despite this assurance, no progress has been made so far.

During a public gathering held today, strong objections were also raised against the transfer and clubbing of the Ziyarat Chotay Shah Badshah account with the District Poonch Waqf account around two years ago. Speakers unanimously demanded that the Ziyarat account be immediately separated and transferred back to Mendhar, stating that the merger has adversely affected transparency and the proper utilisation of funds meant exclusively for the Ziyarat and the Masjid.
The gathering also highlighted other pressing issues, including the reduction of salaries and discontinuation of facilities earlier provided to Madrassa pupils. Speakers said these decisions have negatively impacted religious education and the welfare of students.

Issuing a firm warning, the public announced that if the construction work of Masjid Chotay Shah Badshah is not restarted before January 15, 2026, they will be compelled to take to the streets and launch a peaceful protest. The speakers stressed that this decision has come after years of patience and repeated unfulfilled promises.

The public made a strong and humble appeal to the District Magistrate Poonch, SSP Poonch, and the Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, to personally intervene in the matter. They urged the authorities to ensure the immediate resumption of construction work, restoration of the Ziyarat account to Mendhar, and resolution of genuine issues related to salaries and Madrassa facilities.

The gathering concluded with the resolve that the issue is not merely administrative but is deeply connected with religious sentiments, accountability, and justice. The people expressed hope that timely intervention by the authorities will prevent escalation and help restore public trust.
