JAMMU FEBRUARY 11:-Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK-BADC), a registered organisation working for the welfare of tribal communities and residents of border areas in Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed serious dissatisfaction over the J&K Budget 2026–27 presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The organisation stated that the budget has ignored the genuine concerns and needs of people living in border belts, LoC areas, and tribal regions.
According to JK-BADC, the budget does not reflect the realities faced by border residents, who continue to live under constant insecurity, poor infrastructure, and limited access to basic facilities. The organisation further stated that tribal communities were expecting concrete measures related to education, healthcare, employment, and rehabilitation, but no such focused initiatives were announced.
Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of BADC and former Vice Chancellor, while reacting to the budget presented by the J&K Government, said, “Omar’s budget document has disappointed tribals and border inhabitants who had high expectations from the present government.”
The BADC Chairman, while comparing the budget with the promises made in the National Conference (NC) election manifesto, said there is a clear gap between the two. The assurances given to tribals and border residents before elections have not been translated into policy decisions.
According to Dr. Shazad, the people of Jammu and Kashmir feel let down and believe that the National Conference government has failed to honour its commitments.
