RAJOURI, SEPTEMBER 07:–The Changolgah hamlet situated in Darhal tehsil in Rajouri district and just 6 kilometers from Darhal town (Tehsil HQ) craves basic facilities, especially road connectivity, alleged its residents, including Sarpanch Afsar Malik.
“Even in the 21st century, we don’t have road connectivity and the irony is that we have to walk through thick forests and after crossing a seasonal rivulet to reach the village by foot,” said residents.
“ In the absence of a bridge the residents have come up with a temporary footbridge constructed of wooden logs to cross the rivulet and whenever there were heavy rains, wooden logs washes away along with flood water, causing inconvenience to students, employees, and especially patients to reach their destinations”, said Afsar Malik Sarpanch.
Inhabitants of the area alleged Changolgah is the only helmet in the Darhal tehsil that remains cut off from the rest of the tehsil during rains and is also a most backward area in the tehsil.
We have been deprived of even basic facilities by the successive regimes as no one has even bothered to visit the helmet. We don’t have any facility in our area, including safe drinking water, all-weather road connectivity, health care facilities etc, they added.
The inhabitants of the area have appealed to Lt Governor Administration, higher authorities of PWD(R&B), and District Administration to come forward to mitigate their main problem of a bridge over the the stream.
“Patients, people and especially women & students face risk to their lives while crossing the stream over wooden logs. In the past many people have lost their lives as they couldn’t get timely medical help in the absence of a bridge” said Haneef Malik.
He added that whenever there was rain, the level of water increased in the stream, & students miss their classes.
During elections, politicians come to visit our helmets only to get votes with the promise that they will resolve all our issues and later renege on their promises, the people of Changolgah alleged.
“At present better road connectivity and a bridge over the rivulet is the only demand of the inhabitants of Changolgah which would also help in mitigating other problems of the people,” said Javed Ahmed.
