RAJOURI MARCH 31:–The election officials on Saturday & Sunday have recovered more than Rs 5 lakh cash in two different actions of vehicle frisking in Rajouri district as part of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) rules.
A team under the supervision of First-Class Magistrate, Charanjit Raina (Naib-Tehsildar Taryath) during frisking of vehicles on Jammu-Poonch highway signalled two cars for checking during the last twelve hours.
The election officials on MCC duty recovered Rs 3,81,000/-from a car bearing registration No. JK12-9300 being driven by one Azad Ahmed r/o Khari, who was on his way to Jammu from Poonch district.
As the owner couldn’t give a satisfactory answer about the cash, the cash was seized by the team and was deposited in the government treasury for further action.
Similarly, the team recovered Rs 1.33 lakh from a woman who was also going to Jammu in a car.
The money was also deposited in the treasury after the woman’s unsatisfactory reply to a query about the cash.
The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission to ensure free and fair polling.
The MCC is applied to everyone, including political parties and their candidates.
According to Election Commission of India’s guidelines, a person (s) can’t carry cash of Rs 50,000 and more without supporting documents. Unexplained cash over Rs 50,000 will be confiscated by the authority.
Seizures over Rs 10 lakh will be referred to the Income Tax Department (IT).
The movement of cash should be in sync with the documents.
