RAJOURI MAY 19:-Amid escalating cross-border shelling along the Line of Control, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Rajouri, Ifthkar Ahmed, on Sunday called for urgent intervention from the Central Government to aid civilians in the affected border areas.

Addressing a press conference, MLA Ahmed voiced deep concern over the growing threat to civilian life, mourning the loss and injuries caused by recent shelling incidents. He demanded an immediate special relief package for the Rajouri and Poonch districts and urged the construction of both community and individual bunkers to safeguard residents.

“This is a humanitarian crisis. Our people are living in constant fear,” Ahmed stated. “We need swift action to ensure their protection and well-being.”

During his address, the MLA also paid homage to the late Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Raj Kumar Thappa. Remembering Thappa’s dedication and public service, Ahmed proposed the installation of a statue at a prominent location in Rajouri to honor his legacy.

“Raj Kumar Thappa was a pillar of strength and service in our community. His memory deserves a place in the heart of the town,” he said.

Ahmed reiterated his commitment to working alongside both state and central agencies to deliver relief and ensure long-term safety infrastructure for the region’s border population.

The press conference highlighted the growing urgency for government-backed relief measures and the importance of honoring public servants who made lasting contributions to the region.
