Over 18 Lakh Dead Voters in Bihar Rolls: ECI Reveals in SIR 2025
RAJOURI-DELHI JULY 23:-In a startling revelation, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday disclosed that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Bihar has unearthed major discrepancies. The Commission reported that 18.66 lakh deceased voters, 26.01 lakh electors who have shifted to other constituencies, and 7.50 lakh voters enrolled at multiple places still exist in the system.
The ECI said that all efforts are being intensified to ensure that only eligible voters are included in the draft electoral rolls, which are set to be published on August 1, 2025. As part of this effort, a massive field operation is underway, involving nearly 1 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 4 lakh volunteers, and 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by district presidents of 12 major political parties in Bihar.
According to the ECI, these teams are identifying voters who have not submitted their Enumeration Forms (EFs) or were not found at their registered addresses. So far, detailed lists have been shared with all political parties, including names of 21.36 lakh electors whose forms are still pending, and 52.30 lakh electors who are either deceased, permanently shifted, enrolled in multiple places, or untraceable.
As per the SIR order dated June 24, 2025, the public will be given a one-month window—from August 1 to September 1, 2025—to file objections or request additions, deletions, and corrections in the Draft Electoral Roll.
