RAJOURI APRIL11:-Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) commemorated Rajouri Day on Thursday with a solemn and spirited ceremony honoring the valiant soldiers and local heroes who liberated Rajouri from tribal invaders in April 1948.
The event, held on the university campus, witnessed participation from faculty, scholars, students, and administrative staff, united in a tribute to the region’s enduring legacy of courage and sacrifice.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, in his address, emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the Indian Army and local residents. “Rajouri Day is not just a date on the calendar; it is a tribute to the indomitable spirit and bravery of those who reclaimed this land. At BGSBU, we aim to inculcate values of unity, resilience, and patriotism among our students,” he said.
The keynote address was delivered by Jb. Iqbal Shawl, a noted scholar and social thinker, who vividly recalled the events of April 13, 1948, when Indian forces, aided by the local populace, recaptured Rajouri. Shawl also highlighted the need to document and remember the stories of unsung heroes, urging the youth to draw inspiration from their legacy.
As part of the celebrations, students and faculty presented a series of cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage of the region. Patriotic songs and traditional folk music resonated through the venue, adding a deep emotional tone to the day’s proceedings.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Prof. Qutbuddin from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Deans of various schools, the Controller of Examinations, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and students.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Assistant Professor in the Department of English.
