    RAJOURI, JAN 21:- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today visited Badhaal village to meet the families of the 17 individuals who tragically lost their lives, impacting three families.

    Expressing profound grief, the Chief Minister extended his condolences and assured the bereaved families of full support and assistance by his government.

    He was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Javed Rana and MLA Budhal, Javed Iqbal Choudhary, during the visit.

    The Chief Minister stressed that the government’s priority is to ensure the prevention of such incidents in the future and immediate end to a spate of unfortunate deaths.

    He assured the public that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the tragedy.

    “The civil administration and health department are actively addressing the matter, while the police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. Additionally, a central team has been deputed and is working diligently to uncover the reasons behind this unfortunate loss of life,” he stated. During the visit, MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary submitted a proposal for compensation to the affected families.

    The Chief Minister confirmed that the proposal is under active consideration and pledged timely action.

    Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also directed Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, to extend all necessary support to the families during this difficult time.

    He reassured the public that the findings of the investigation will be made transparent and that appropriate measures will be implemented based on the results.

    Urging restraint in political interference, he added, “I appeal to everyone to allow the concerned agencies to perform their duties. Identifying the reasons behind these tragic deaths is our utmost priority, and we are committed to taking steps to prevent such occurrences in the future.”

    RAJOURI JAN 17:-On Friday hundreds of mourners joined the Namaz e Janaza rites of Jatti Begam (60) years w/o late Mohd Yousuf and Zabina Kousar (10 years) d/o Mohd Aslam in Badhaal village of Rajouri district.

    Mohd Yousuf was died on Monday in GMC Rajouri.Following wide criticism of lackadaisical attitude of the government in handling the situation and neglecting the poor people of this remote area in this n hour of need, Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary and Health & Higher Education Minister Sakina Itoo have to visit village Badhaal on Saturday morning.

    With the deaths of Jatti Begam on Thursday in AH GMC Rajouri, the death toll due to unidentified disease has risen to 16.Meanwhile, a high-level team of doctors and scientists on the second consecutive day visited Badhaal on Friday and collected samples of neighbours of Fazal Hussain (35) who was the first victim of this unidentified disease and died in GMC Rajouri on December 7.

    Within two days of his death, four minor children of Fazal Hussain also succumbed to unidentified disease in hospitals at Rajouri & Jammu.

    A pall of gloom has descended on Badhaal village and after 16 deaths the terror has gripped the entire area and inhabitants of this remote area are now avoiding visiting each other’s house.
    “No minister of the present government has visited this remote village since December 7, Only local MLA Javed Choudhry extended helping hand to these poor people in this hour of need” , said local residents.

    Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rajouri, ML Rana said that another Epidemiological team, consisting of doctors and scientists from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), along with experts from PGI Chandigarh and Chennai, headed by Assistant Director NCDC, has reached Rajouri.

    The team during another survey will try to find the reason behind deaths by taking samples & performing surveillance.

    It is pertinent to mention here that recently Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo in a high-level meeting informed that experts said that deaths in Badhaal are not caused by any disease however, certain neurotoxins were found in the samples of those who died over the past one month.

    On Wednesday Health Minister Sakina Masood Itoo said the deaths were not due to any disease and the district administration and police would hold an investigation to ascertain the reason behind the deaths.

    The training program, which ran from December 10, 2024, to January 16, 2025, provided comprehensive skills to the participants, enabling them to venture into tailoring as a sustainable source of livelihood.     Sunil Sharma, Director of JKBRSETI Rajouri, addressed the trainees during the program, highlighting the importance of self-employment in today’s economic landscape. The event saw enthusiastic participation from various youth clubs and schools across the region.

    The event was inaugurated by Shamsher Khan, Principal of the host school, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Vice Principal and staff members. In his address, Shamsher Khan expressed his joy at hosting such a vibrant sports event and extended his best wishes to all participants.

    The sports meet was organized under the supervision of Nitin Hangloo, District Youth Officer, NYK Rajouri, and was successfully managed by Irfan Mukhtar, President of the Youth Club, Block Manjakote.

    JAMMU JAN 17:-In a significant action against drug trafficking under Operation Sanjeevani*, Jammu Police apprehended two drug peddlers including one SPO posted at DPL Poonch and recovered 12 grams of heroin-like substance (Chitta) during a late-night operation near Balol Bridge, Ring Road, Miran Sahib.

    A police team from Police Station Miran Sahib, led by the SHO under the supervision of SDPO R.S. Pura and overall guidance of SP Headquarters, intercepted a vehicle traveling from Samba towards Akhnoor. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended.

    The arrested individuals have been identified as Irfan Hussain(SPO posted at DPL Poonch)S/O Matloob Hussain, R/O Galuta, Tehsil Mendhar and Sajjad Hussain Shah, S/O Sarfraz Hussain Shah, R/O Potha Surankot, District Poonch

    A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 12 grams of heroin-like substance. Following this, an FIR No. 11/2025 under sections 8/21/22/29/60 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib, and further investigation is underway.

    Jammu Police remains committed to eradicating the drug menace and urges citizens to support the fight against narcotics by reporting any suspicious activities. The identity of informants providing crucial leads in such cases will be kept confidential.

    RAJOURI, JAN 17:- Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma, convened a comprehensive review meeting with multiple departments to assess the progress of ongoing works including the execution of national projects such as the construction and widening of the National Highway in the district.

    *The Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of adhering to the deadlines set for completion of different components of the Highway project. He emphasized the need for seamless coordination among departments to address challenges and bottlenecks effectively.*

    District Mineral Officer (DMO), Mohammad Sayeed, provided a detailed briefing on material availability and clearance processes.

    *Highlighting the importance of controlling illegal constructions along the National Highway, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the concerned authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the Ribbon Development Act to prevent unauthorised construction. Simultaneously he directed to expedite the processing of Change of Land Use (CLU) cases so that the general public, especially unemployed youth may not suffer.*

    JAMMU JAN 17:– Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the alarming situation in Budhal village of Rajouri district, where mysterious deaths have claimed 16 lives, with one more victim succumbing to an unexplained illness.
    The meeting was attended by Minister of Health & Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo; Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani; Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo; Additional Chief Secretary to the CM, Dheeraj Gupta; ADGP Jammu, Anand Jain; Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar; Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, and other senior medical and police officers.
    Secretary Health & Medical Education, briefed the Chief Minister on the steps taken so far.
    He reported that health department teams had conducted door-to-door survey of over 3,000 residents in the affected area, collecting and testing samples of water, food, and other materials.
    He informed that all test results, including those for influenza and other possible contaminants, came back negative.
    The meeting was informed that additional testing was carried out by premier national institutes, including ICMR, National Institute of Virology, National Centre for Disease Control, CSIR, DRDO, and PGIMER Chandigarh, but no definite cause for the deaths was identified.
    Police officials informed the meeting that investigations are underway to determine the root cause of the fatalities, which have been limited to three families residing within 1.5 kilometers of each other.
    Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah directed the health and police departments to expedite their investigations.
    “The unexplained nature of these deaths is deeply concerning, and the government is committed to ensuring that the root cause is identified at the earliest. I urge all departments to collaborate and leave no stone unturned in resolving this issue,” he stated.
    It was also emphasized during the meeting that the health department has maintained an active presence in the area over the past 40 days, providing ambulances, medicines, and essential facilities to address any emergencies.
    Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Chief Minister reassured the public that the administration is treating the situation with the highest priority.
    “The health and safety of our citizens remain our top priority. The government is fully committed to resolving this crisis and ensuring justice for the affected families,” he added.

    RAJOURI JAN 15:-Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar on Tuesday constituted a 11-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP (Operations) Budhal, Wajahat Hussain in the wake of mounting public pressure and keeping in view the sensitivity of inquest proceedings into 14 deaths allegedly due to mystery illness.
    Other members of the team are 6 from the police department and 4 from Health department (GMC) including experts from the departments of Forensic Medicines & Toxicology; Microbiology, Paediatrics, and Pathology.
    SSP order read that keeping in view of the sensitivity of Inquest proceedings initiated into the deaths reported under the jurisdiction of Kandi (Koteranka) police station, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising of officials/officers ( from police & health departments) is hereby constituted under the chairmanship of Sajahat Hussain(JKPS), SP Operations Budhal.
    Order further read: “The team will make all sincere efforts to work out the inquest proceedings (three in number) to its logical conclusion at an earliest. In-charge shall also utilise services of experts from Food Safety, Agriculture, Jal Shakti, & experts of FSL team Jammu during the investigation”.
    Earlier on Wednesday Sakeena Itoo , Health & Medical Education Minister said that efforts are on to ascertain the exact cause of unfortunate deaths.
    “All the Sample tests taken after initial deaths, including water, food grains, rest of the things, biscuits they used, found negative after examination”, she said.
    She added the health department got some samples tested through national institutes like ICMR, National Institute of Virology, National Centre for Disease control, CSIR, DRDO, PGIMER Chandigarh and others and all reports were found negative.
    She further said that the well-being of our citizens is our top priority and we will leave no stone unturned to find out the root cause behind these tragic deaths.
    She appealed to people to extend support to police, district administration during investigation to find out the root cause behind these deaths.
