The deputy mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Sheikh Imran on Monday alleged that he was attacked by the RSS and BJP-backed corporators, even as he vowed to speak against ‘corruption’ in the corporation.
Imran received few stitches after a corporator threw some object at him during a council meeting of the SMC earlier today.Addressing a presser, Imran said the assault on him was pre-planned by the BJP and RSS backed corporators.
“I will not bow down by such tactics. I will continue to speak against corruption and injustice,” he said, adding that he was attacked for speaking against BJP and Hindutva campaigns.
Imran said that he was committed to “kicking out” the BJP from Kashmir.
He said the corporators who attacked him were backed by SMC mayor.
He appealed to Governor Satya Pal Malik and Chief Secretary to look into the matter.
“From the first day, I urged the administration to look into the issue of BJP, RSS sponsored Mayor but they turned dead ears,” he claimed.
Imran said from past one week, he was continuously being trolled by the “BJP, RSS army” in the corporation. -
Searches conducted in Kotbalwal jail in Jammu, 2 mobile phones, illegal items seized*
Jammu: Police have recovered illegal items, including two mobile phones, five pendrives and some sharp-edged weapons from high-security Kot Bhalwal jail in winter capital Jammu, officials said Monday.
LPG cylinders, deep freezers and several other incriminating items were also recovered from the barracks housing over 500 inmates, including local and foreign terrorists, during the day-long operation carried out by 300 policemen and jail staff under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Tejinder Singh Sunday, they said.
The officials said authorities were monitoring the activities inside the jail over the past couple of months, especially the use of mobile phones and accordingly planned the operation.
However, no SIM card was recovered during the operation, they said, adding that these could have been disposed off or destroyed secretly by users when the searches started.
The mobile phones and pendrives have been sent for a detailed analysis to extract data which will take some time, the officials said.
In addition to over 200 hardcore local and Pakistani terrorists, the jail houses prisoners, including dreaded criminals, habitual stone-throwers and detainees under the public safety act. (PTI)

Liquor producing working still, Lahaan destroyed, liquor seized
Rajouri,Jan 21:-,Jammuand Kashmir police on Monday morning unearthed a working still used for producing desi liquor in Mangiot village of Nowshera and destroyed lahaan besides seizure of fresh produced liquor.
On a specific information, a team of police headed by SDPO Nowshera Brijesh Sharma along with SHO Nowshera Mohammad Amin under the supervision of Addl SP Nowshera Girdhari Lal Sharma conducted a raid in the said village and unearthed the working still near the house of a local man.
The still was destroyed on the spot while 15 kilograms of Lahaan was also destroyed and four litres of desi liquor seized.
Man namely Sat Paul son of Bari Ram resident of Mangiot Nowshera has been arrested.
A case FIR No 11/2019 U/S 48 (b)and 48(e) of Excise Act has been registered and investigation taken up.
