    Farooq-Azad talks on cards

jammu : With Prime Minister, Narendra Modi having spoken high about former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, talks between the veteran Congress leader and his counterpart from the National Conference, Dr Farooq Abdullah are on the cards.
Sources said a lobby in New Delhi close to both the leaders is of the opinion that Dr Abdullah and Azad should hold talks with regard to Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said the Bharatiya Janta Party is “comfortable to negotiate” any political demand on Jammu and Kashmir like the restoration of statehood if it comes through leaders like Azad who is “known for his nationalist outlook since day one.”
Sources said the lobby close to the regional parties based in Kashmir believe that Azad can prove a “game-changer in speedy realization of their demands and thus be helpful even for holding early polls.”
Sources said the talks between Azad and Abdullah are likely to take place in the summer capital in the coming days.
Sources said the talks would focus mainly on demand for restoration of the statehood and early Assembly elections.
It is pertinent to mention that on February 9, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi got emotional in Parliament as he bid farewell to veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and said that his legacy in national politics will be hard to replace.
“As a leader of the opposition, it’s easy to engage in party politics, but Ghulam Nabi Azad Ji rose above this and always prioritised the prosperity of the country first,” PM Modi said. “During the pandemic, it was Azad’s proposal to call an all-party meet to fight the crisis as one nation,” the PM added.
Modi’s appreciation for Azad came despite the fact that the latter had upped his demand for restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir during the same Parliament session.
Azad had said the BJP should table a bill to go ahead with the restoration of the statehood soon.
After Modi’s appreciation for him, Azad during his recent visit to Jammu, had reciprocated by showering praises on the PM.
The development had drawn serious criticism from some of the Congress colleagues in Jammu. But Azad remained defiant.
“All this suggests that something is cooking up on Kashmir and Azad has a lead role… This is what parties like National Conference want to cash upon,” said a political analyst based in Jammu.

Sources said representatives from at-least three parties based in Kashmir have expressed willingness to hold deliberations with any such visiting delegation.
Till now, since the abrogation of the special status, most of the Kashmir-based parties had been staying away from meeting the visiting Parliamentary delegations.

Administration turning a blind eye towards miseries of common man: PDP Hike in Prices of essential commodities burdening poor.

Srinagar,March March 16:– Peoples Democratic Party has censured the administration for recent hike in prices of essential commodities further burdening the common man already reeling under financial distress.

In a statement issued here, Party General Secretary G N lone Hanjura has underlined that the induced inflationary shock instead of reprieve measures has created more financial burden for the common man.

“Our economic sector which was devastated post August 5 and further destroyed by Corona virus was only limping back to normalcy has yet again been put under severe strain because of hike in gas prices, petrol and diesel tariffs and now increase in electricity dues,” Hanjura said.

Comparing Delhi; an electricity consuming state with Jammu and Kashmir an electricity generating state Hanjura said the electricity unit cost in Delhi is less than in J&K.

“People in Budgam were shocked to receive the electricity bills with thrice the normal bill amount even when electricity is erratic and nowhere to be seen. How can poor families afford to pay such exorbitant amounts? All this when J&K is an electricity surplus state supplying electricity to the rest of the country,” Hanjura added.

Emphasising the need for administration to reconsider and intervene to stop the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities Hanjura said that administration should give up its apathy towards the common people and stop deriving sadistic pleasure from the miseries of the poor.

  • Officially 10% wastage of Covid vaccine in Rajouri district.

Officially 10% wastage of Covid vaccine in Rajouri district.

    Shyam Sood
    Rajouri March 15
:–Official sources said that about 10% wastage of Covid-19 vaccine has been reported in all session sites in Rajouri district, which is a matter of worry for the higher authorities.

The matter has been taken seriously by Director General Family Welfare.Deputy Chief Medical Officer Rajouri has been asked to look into the matter and take remedial measures.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on Monday has issued directions to Medical Superintendent, Associated District Hospital and to all the Block Medical Officers to take necessary steps so that the wastage of Covid-19 vaccine in all the sessions should not exceed 4% in the future.
He/She advised the BMOs to open the Covid-19 vial only when eight or more persons are present for the vaccination.

The main reason for the wastage of Covid-19 vaccine is that the employees open the vials, even when between 3-4 people come for the vaccination.
It is very difficult to follow such directions because sometimes people (less than 8) force the employees for the vaccination that can’t be denied, said a senior health officer.

Each 5 ml vial of the Covid-19 vaccine has 10 doses in total. “Once opened for inoculation needs to be fully used within four hours, else remaining doses go waste and need to be destroyed” said Dr, Mehmood, BMO, Manjakot.

A senior health officials said that it is very difficult for the health officials deputed at the sites of sessions (deputed for vaccination) to control the wastage of vaccination.

“People living in remote and hilly areas reaching the session sites after covering long distances on foot & they can’t be denied for the vaccination or asked to wait till more than 8 people were present for the vaccination” he said.

In remote and rural areas, even the senior citizens, avoiding vaccination for many reasons, including religious, due to opposition of the vaccination, apprehensions of side-effects etc, and are coming in less number for the vaccination.
