Augmentation of Rajouri Drug de-addiction center on the cards.

Rajouri, March 08:–An alarming increase in drug abuse, especially among the youngsters, in recent years has been observed in the Rajouri district which is a matter of concern.
With an aim to make all possible efforts to curb the menace of drugs in the district and keep the youth (s) on the right track Vikas Kundal, Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the concerned officers.
The DC also directed the concerned to monitor all aspects of drug abuse prevention, which include assessment of the extent of the problem, preventive action, dissemination of information and public awareness.
Addressing the meeting, the DC said that the District Administration is working on a multi-pronged strategy to provide every possible support to youth to stand on their own and live a respectful life in society.
Discussions were also held in the meeting to finalise the proposal for augmentation of services at the drug de-addiction center of the Government Medical College & Associated Hospital.
A ten bedded drug de-addiction center is currently being run by District Administration and Health Authorities in the GMC&AH on an OPD basis.
In order to assess whether the existing setup of de-addiction center GMC&AH could be run on an IPD basis with the augmentation of infrastructure, the DC has constituted a committee and asked to submit its report within a week.
The committee includes Medical Superintendent, AH&GMC, Dr Mehmood Bajar; District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt & Executive Engineer, PWD.
Vikas Kundal, DC also sought public cooperation to make Rajouri a drugs-free district.
