MENDHAR JANUARY 20:-In a strong blow to corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district.
Official sources said the action followed a complaint alleging that the ASI had demanded illegal gratification in lieu of performing official duties. Taking swift cognizance of the complaint, the ACB verified the allegations and laid a well-planned trap. During the operation, the accused official was apprehended on the spot while receiving the bribe amount.
The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the ASI, and a case has been registered against him under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused had indulged in similar corrupt practices earlier or if any other officials were involved.
The arrest has sent a clear and stern message that corruption within public offices will not be tolerated. Residents of Mendhar have welcomed the ACB’s action, terming it a much-needed step to restore public confidence in the administration and law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service. Citizens have been urged to report instances of corruption fearlessly, assuring them of strict action against offenders and full protection to whistleblowers.
