RAJOURI, AUGUST 25:–Garhi Battalion under the aegis of the Tithwal Brigade of the Indian Army distributed 79 Solar Lights among the people of Somwali & Barmewalli villages under Operation Sadbhavna in Rajouri district on Thursday.
“The main objective of this program is to meet their long pending demand about the difficulties faced by the villagers, cattle herders, and school-going children in the hill tracks,” said a senior Army officer.
“With the installation of these lights, the hill people of Somwali and Barmewali villages will be able to complete their way safely and fast with the help of these solar lights so that they can protect themselves and their children’s lives from snakes and poisonous spiders during the rainy season,” he added.
“This act will not only removes the darkness of their lives, but also creates confidence in the army and common citizens so that common citizens can contribute in the development of the country” the officer further said.
Inhabitants of the area appreciated these efforts made by the army and said: “Such events will increase the trust between us and the Army and strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation”.
Prominent dignitaries & people’s representatives present on this occasion thanked the Tithwal Brigade Commander and the Commanding Officer of the Garhi Battalion for this work and the need to organize such events in future also.
Meanwhile, Kalal-based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, in Nowshera sub-district in Rajouri district on Thursday organised an awareness talk on the ill effects of drugs in the government higher secondary school at Seri.
Drug addiction has become a worldwide problem among students and youth.
The talk started with the opening remarks by the Headmaster of the School elucidating the importance of educating society about the ill effects of drugs.
The Regimental Medical Officer of Kalal Rashtriya Rifles spoke in detail about the ill effects of the drugs and also briefed the students in detail about the early path into drug addiction and preventive actions to avoid it.
The program was conducted in a cordial and engaging environment followed by an interactive session with the students in which the students also contributed their thoughts on drug abuse. “The aim of organising this event was to create awareness among the students and youth about the dreadful effects of drugs and the steps to be taken to eradicate this menace from society,” said a senior officer of the RR Bn.
