Rajouri, September 23:–Accused Manzoor Hussain s/o Gulzar Hussain of border village Sariya in Nowshera sub-Division in Rajouri district is still out of the reach of district Rajouri police after he was booked on September 7 under sections 17 & 21 (raising funds for the terrorist act) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 (UAPA).
On September 7, Nowshera police and the Indian Army during a search operation along the LoC had recovered two bags containing Indian currency Rs 1,64,70,600 (Rs one crore, sixty-four lakh, seventy thousand and six hundred).
Two persons were challenged by the security forces in the wee hours, but instead of halting, they fled from the spot leaving behind two bags.
During the preliminary investigation, it was established that both the bags belong to one Manzoor Ahmed resident of village Sariya and brother of one noted drug peddler Sikander who was arrested in Punjab in the month of August and was booked under various sections of NDPS Act at Kathu Nangal police station (FIR164/2021).
On September 4 in a joint raid/search in the house of Sikander, Nowshera & Punjab police had recovered Rs29.5 lakh and after legal formalities, the cash was handed over to the Punjab police for further investigation.
District police are still in the process to establish the source of the huge cash recovered from both the brothers.
“We have developed/identified some links associated with the recovery of huge cash from two bags. The identified accused (Manzoor) is still at large. Can’t divulge any more information at this juncture of investigation,” said Amit Verma, Additional SP, Nowshera.
However, he assured that soon the police will crack the case.
Reliable sources said that it could be a well-nit drug trafficking network to generate Hawala money being handled by terrorist groups from across the LoC in nexus with their OGWs operating on this side of LoC to provide financial assistance to the terrorists operating in J&K especially in Kashmir.
Pertinent to mention here that in the month of May in 2018 an ex-militant along with two HM OGWs (came from Shopian) were among four arrested by Rajouri police along with Rs 1 lakh collected by their Rajouri based colleague namely Mohd Arif (drug peddler) r/o Kotli village in the Keri sector in Rajouri district.
During sustained interrogation, all the four had disclosed that Mohd Arif was collecting Hawala money in Rajouri district and HM OGWs from Shopian were collecting money from him.
