*Party terms Public Safety Act a tool of suppression; vows state-wide movement for justice and democratic rights*

RAJOURI OCT 10:-The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today launched a signature campaign in the general area of Rajouri, demanding the immediate release of Doda MLA Mehraj Malik and the complete repeal of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA).
The campaign was spearheaded by Advocate Ibrar Chowdhary along with Ruksar Shah, Sheraz Shaikh, and other active members of the party. Addressing the gathering, Advocate Chowdhary asserted that the PSA has repeatedly been misused to detain public representatives, activists, and ordinary citizens without fair trial, thereby violating constitutional safeguards and democratic values.
Terming the PSA a “black law,” AAP leaders said it allows prolonged detention without judicial oversight, eroding public trust in the justice system. They stressed that the campaign’s objective is to raise awareness among citizens about the law’s misuse and its impact on democracy, civil liberties, and human rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
Advocate Chowdhary further said that the detention of MLA Mehraj Malik under the PSA is “a grave injustice to the people’s mandate.” He urged citizens, legal professionals, and civil society organizations to come together in support of the movement for restoring transparency, accountability, and democratic norms.
The Aam Aadmi Party announced that the signature campaign will continue across multiple districts in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days. The collected signatures will be submitted as a collective memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the Union Government, demanding the immediate repeal the PSA.
