SRINAGAR SEPT 23:-In a significant development for community service in the region, a high-level delegation from Rotary International District 3070 (Punjab, Himachal, Jammu & Kashmir) met with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, *Mr. Omar Abdullah jee, *today at Civil Secretariat srinagar .
The delegation was led by District Governor Dr. Rohit Oberoi, accompanied by First Lady Aruna Oberoi. They were joined by the key officers of the Rotary Club of Kashmir: Assistant Governor Wazir Sameer, President Jagjit Singh, Secretary Dr. Touseef Ahmed, and Treasurer Adil Shah.
The meeting served as a platform to discuss Rotary’s extensive and ongoing humanitarian initiatives across the Union Territory. The delegation apprised the Hon’ble Chief Minister of various community service projects, with a special emphasis on the relief and rehabilitation efforts under ‘Operation HUM 4 Humanity’, aimed at supporting families adversely affected by the recent floods.
Expressing deep appreciation for Rotary’s work, the Hon’ble Chief Minister provided gracious guidance on the future course of action for these initiatives. He assured the delegation of the full support and cooperation of the Jammu & Kashmir administration in facilitating Rotary’s humanitarian missions, recognizing their potential to create substantial positive impact on the ground.
The meeting culminated in a moment of great pride for the organization when the Hon’ble Chief Minister graciously accepted the *Honorary Membership of Rotary International.* To symbolize this association, District Governor Dr. Rohit Oberoi had the distinct honour of pinning Mr. Abdullah with the iconic Rotary lapel pin.
Speaking on this occasion, District Governor Dr. Rohit Oberoi stated, “This is a momentous day for Rotary in Jammu & Kashmir. The Hon’ble Chief Minister’s encouragement and his commitment to public welfare are a tremendous source of motivation for every Rotarian in our District. His assurance of support significantly strengthens our resolve to serve the communities of Jammu, Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal with even greater zeal and dedication. Together, we can truly create lasting change.”
Rotary International is a global service organization with over 1.4 million members worldwide. District 3070 encompasses clubs across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. Rotarians are business, professional, and community leaders who volunteer their time and resources to tackle pressing humanitarian challenges, working towards causes such as eradicating polio, promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, and growing local economies.
This gesture is seen as a powerful endorsement of Rotary’s philosophy of ‘*Service Above Self’ *and is expected to foster a stronger collaborative spirit between the civil administration and Rotary’s network of volunteers, amplifying the reach and effectiveness of community development projects in the region .
