Paharis resented deny of 4% reservation by BGSBU

Rajouri June 03:-‘Leaders of Pahari Speaking Community have expressed their anguish over denial of 4% reservation to Pahari students in the admission to various courses offered by of BGSBU for 2021-22 academic sessions.
“The Government has given 4% reservation to Pahari Speaking People (PSP) & denial of the benefit of reservation, which is granted by the Constitution of India is violation of Pahari’s constitutional rights and can’t be denied at any cost,” said Advocate Raja Mehmood.
Recently Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has started the online process for the admission of the students and the online submission of application forms was commenced on June 1.
Prof Akbar Masood, VC has also reduced fees up by 50% for the academic programs.
Raja Mehmood has appealed to the BGSBU authorities to give the benefit of reservation to the PSP.
“Failing which we will be left with no other option than to knock the door of the Court,” he said.
Shahbaz Khan and G.M Charak, Chief Patron and General Secretary, J&K Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) respectively, have also expressed their anguish against the BGSBU administration in this matter.
“Various prominent institutions of higher studies, including University of Kashmir, Jammu University, giving 4% reservation to PSP then why not BGSBU,” they said.
Umar Mir, Rameez Khan, and other youth leaders of Pahari community have appealed to Lt Governor to intervene in this matter.
Pahari leaders have also appealed to the Lt Governor to re-open multi- crore scholarship scam, that had surfaced at BGSBU a few years ago, and was hushed up with active involvement of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.
Pertinent to mention here that following rationalisation of the percentage of reservation of different categories in the direct recruitment, the residents of backward areas will now have 10 % reservation, Pahari speaking people 4 % and economically weaker sections 10 %.
Despite repeated efforts no senior official including Prof Iqbal Parwez, Dean Academic Affairs (didn’t respond) was available to speak on the issue.

However, an official said that BGSBU is already providing 25% reservation to the students of Rajouri & Poonch districts and total reservation (including ex-servicemen, ST/SC, OBA etc) is already 49% and can’t be increased beyond 50%
