Rs. 2.58 lskh recovered from woman baggar’s Jhugi at Nowshera

Nowshehra/Rajouri June 01:-‘Municipal authorities have recovered cash worth Rs 2, 58,507/-(notes + coins) from the Jhugi of an old-aged woman beggar from near the bus stand at the Nowshera town who was shifted to Rajouri town amid lockdown restrictions.
The cash was recovered during the removal of Jhugi after about 5 beggars were shifted to a shelter home at Rajouri on the direction of the District Magistrate so that they may be provided food, shelter, Medicare, etc amid Covid Curfew restrictions.
In first of its kind initiative, Rajesh Kumar Shavan, District Magistrate; after reports of difficulties being faced by the beggars, destitute, orphans (having no source to make both ends meet), homeless male & female in distress; have recently ordered to shift them to temporary shelter accommodation made at Rajouri town.
District administration not only will provide shelter to such persons, but also provide them food, clothes, health care facility during this pandemic.
During a search of the Jhugi Municipal Committee team found the cash wrapped in the polythene envelopes and the matter was immediately brought into the notice of higher authorities.
Sukhdev Singh Samyal, Additional DC, Nowshera directed the presidents of Beopar Mandal, Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Municipal Committee, and Councilors to count the cash under the supervision of the 1st class Magistrate (Tehsildar) and the police..
According to the denizens of Nowshera town, the woman beggar was in the town for the last about 30 years and were unable to understand the language she converses.
“When the authorities were shifting her to Rajouri, she continuously was talking about the cash, but nobody could understand her concern, ” said Rohit Kohli, Councilor.
“On the directions from higher authorities the cash after counting, Worth Rs 2.58,507/-, has been locked in a box and was kept in the safe custody in the government treasury. She will be informed about the cash and will be handed over to her at an appropriate time,” said Additional DC.
“All the tehsildars in the district were directed to identify such persons under their jurisdictions so that they may be provided accommodation, shelter along with food during pandemic at already established Covid Care Centers,” said Sachin Dev Singh ADC (HQ).
He added till date10 persons, including 5 from Nowshera, 2 each from Sunderbani & Rajouri town, and one from Kotranka, have been brought to Rajouri for such facilities.
