RAJOURI, NOVEMBER 04:-Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Dr. Devansh Yadav on Wednesday chaired a Block Diwas programme at Dak Bungalow Darhal, where he interacted with local residents, listened to their grievances and reviewed key developmental issues requiring administrative intervention.

During the public interaction, residents highlighted several pressing demands, including improvement of the Bus Stand–Parathan Road, repairs to the Bari Darhal–Hilltak Road, restoration of drinking water supply, repair of defunct hand pumps and provision of adequate parking and toilet facilities at the Darhal Bus Stand. The demand for opening a State Bank of India branch in the area was also raised.

The public representatives and locals also sought an Indoor Stadium, better sports infrastructure, completion of pending works at Government Higher Secondary School Darhal and Government Degree College Darhal, and construction of a dedicated building for Gulshan Fatima Residential School. Shortage of staff in educational institutions and inadequate healthcare facilities, including availability of doctors, were also brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner.

Other issues discussed included establishment of a Fire and Emergency Services facility, departmental awareness camps, promotion of paragliding and development of the Shakar Marg Project, particularly the proposed Seven Lakes tourism circuit.

Responding to the concerns, DC Devansh Yadav assured that genuine public demands would be examined on priority. He issued a stern warning to contractors failing to execute allotted works, making it clear that strict action, including blacklisting, would be initiated against those found negligent, as per rules.

On the proposed Indoor Stadium, the Deputy Commissioner informed that its Detailed Project Report (DPR) had already been prepared and called upon concerned stakeholders to identify suitable land so that the project could move forward.

In a major initiative for the farming community, he announced that a Kisan Mela would be organised on November 5, 2026, to familiarise farmers with modern agricultural techniques, government schemes and income-generation opportunities. He urged farmers to participate in large numbers and avail themselves of the benefits.

To strengthen the local dairy sector, the Animal Husbandry Department was directed to take necessary steps for establishing a milk collection centre at Darhal. The DC also sought public suggestions for identifying a suitable location for developing a water body and announced an allocation of ₹30 lakh for the proposed project.

As part of the welfare outreach, the Deputy Commissioner distributed two wheelchairs, two walking sticks and four hearing aids among eligible beneficiaries. Two sanction letters under SMAS, amounting to ₹75,000 and ₹50,000, respectively, were also handed over. Three pension sanction letters, including two in favour of widows, were distributed.

Recognising community and individual contributions, KKG Baridarhal was felicitated for its outstanding community service, while a progressive farmer was honoured for his contribution to agriculture.

Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), a power tiller sanction letter was handed over to a beneficiary. The Animal Husbandry Department also issued appreciation letters to two farmers for their commendable performance under HADP. An approval letter for a milking machine and a poultry unit was also provided to support livelihood generation and allied agricultural activities.

Emphasising the importance of sanitation and waste management, the DC informed that a garbage collection vehicle would be provided to Darhal through the Rural Development Department. He appealed to residents to ensure its proper utilisation, observing that cleanliness and effective waste management were essential for public health as well as the promotion of tourism in the area.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the ongoing construction of Government Degree College Darhal and directed the concerned authorities to accelerate the pace of work to ensure its timely completion.

He reiterated that the administration remained committed to responsive governance, improved public service delivery and equitable development of Darhal and adjoining areas, adding that public participation would remain central to identifying local priorities and resolving grievances.

The programme was attended by SSP Naresh Singh, Additional District Development Commissioner Malik Zada Sheraz Ul Haq, Chief Planning Officer Maqsood Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Development Sheraz Chowhan, Chief Education Officer Mohd Hafiz and other district and sectoral officers. www.gnsonline.in
