SRINAGAR, SEPT 28:- Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday said that the BJP supports restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir but strongly objected to the language and references contained in the resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Speaking in the Assembly, Sharma said, “We also want statehood, but the words used in the resolution are unacceptable and unconstitutional.”
His remarks came amid heated exchanges in the House over references to the erstwhile state’s 2000 autonomy resolution and pre-August 2019 status.
Taking a dig at Omar Abdullah, Sharma said the so-called autonomy resolution had been rejected by the then BJP-led government at the Centre, when Omar Abdullah was a minister and the National Conference was a partner of the NDA government.
“The so-called autonomy resolution was thrown into the dustbin when Omar Abdullah was a partner and minister in the BJP government,” Sharma said.
The BJP has maintained that it supports restoration of full statehood but opposes bringing issues relating to the 2000 autonomy resolution and Article 370 into the present statehood resolution.
